What is a 3D pen?
The name is quite evocative and gives you the promise of 3D drawing by depositing molten plastic.

The overall operation of a 3D pen is quite simplistic: the filament is wedged between a ball bearing and a drive wheel driven by a motor. The filament is guided to the nozzle by a tube. In contact with the nozzle, heated by a resistor, the plastic melts. The latter exits through the nozzle to a prescribed diameter much lower than that of the filament. The plastic output is therefore quite thin and it hardens very quickly in contact with the ambient air.
How does a 3D pen work?
A 3D pen not only allows you to draw in 3D, but also to write in 3D. Its operating principle is similar to that of a 3D printer. With this pen, you can draw either bas-reliefs like, for example, write his name, or 3D volumes like, for example, a house. Two types of technologies are used in these pens namely FDM (Deposition of Melts) technology and SLA (Stereolithography Apparatus) technology.

- Draw directly in 3D : this is a very fast method, but does not have solid structures. You have to start by drawing a big point flat. While continuing the extrusion, go up respecting the shape of the 3D pen. - Draw in 2D and assemble parts later: this is the easiest method. In addition, it allows to create more stable structures. Begin by first drawing each part of the volume flat like, for example, the feet of a chair. You can iron several times in order to solidify the different parts. Using the hot plastic from the 3D pen, glue together the different parts to obtain the desired design.
- Draw over a model : it is a question of choosing beforehand a simple object, which must not be made of plastic. Draw on top of the object using your 3D pen, but do not join the tips. This will allow you to remove the item later. After finishing the drawing, remove the object and join the different ends. You will get the desired 3D design.
